Iron sucrose, names previously used: Iron Sugar, Iron Sucrose Complex, Iron Oxide Saccharated, Iron(III) hydroxide Sucrose Complex, Saccharated Iron, Saccharated Iron Oxide, Ferric Hydroxide Sucrose Complex, and Iron Saccharate, is one of the oldest IV iron for treatment of iron deficiency anemia and related indications (hematinic). Now, Iron sucrose becomes the best-selling IV iron in the world for its safety. However, there is only one product which brand name is Venofer ®(vifor, Switzerland) in the market due to lack of qualified API supply.
Iron sucrose is a kind of high molecular weight complex, which the polynuclear inner sphere of ferric hydroxide is surrounded by sucrose molecules, therefore, the process to manufacturing iron sucrose API is highly complicated and should be carefully controlled. CPRI have developed the process and built a GMP workshop which capacity is over 10 ton/year to produce iron sucrose API. Moreover, CPRI has submitted iron sucrose DMF to FDA and been ready for FDA inspection.
Iron sucrose is a key product of CPRI. Aiming to be the leading supplier of iron complex in the world, CPRI have already developed other iron complex, such as sodium ferric gluconate, iron polymaltose, etc. |
